How long until skin discoloration from a band aid wears off?
Q. I got a pretty bad blister that tore off when I went golfing and put some neosporin on it and a band aid after. I left the band aid for too long apparently though and now the area surrounding the torn skin is all white and wrinkly. Will this heal by itself and if so how long will it take?

A. It will heal and it will take a couple days maybe a week depending on how long you had the band aid on.

Is it okay to put a band-aid on a wart that has been recently frozen with nitrogen?
Q. My doctor has frozen a wart on my hand and put a band-aid on it. Is that okay to put the band-aid on it? It has been two days now, so how long will it take for the wart to fall off? Will the band-aid affect it at all?

A. The best answer would be to call your doc and find out his or her preferences. It should be fine to cover the area, and this is often requires, because the area may have a little drainage. Clean the area according to the instructions your doc gave you, and you should be fine

Got stitches and have to keep a band-aid on it but it gets irritated?
Q. I got a mole removed on my back, so they put stitches in. I have to have them in for two weeks. Its been almost a week since I got them, and we have to keep it covered with a band-aid. The band-aid irritates my skin so we got fabric band-aids, and but them on each time in different directions, but it still irritates my skin. What can I do to keep it from getting so irritated?

A. Many people are allergic to Band-Aid adhesive. If it's dry, you might get by without any covering at all, since your clothes will protect it. But if you want to cover it, instead of Band-Aids, you might consider Gauss and gas permeable tape.

How can I put a band-aid on my ankle?
Q. Like Palms, I have trouble putting band-aids on my ankles. I have this big blister that popped awhile back. It's slowly squirting out liquid little by little and I don't want it to get infected. But my ankle seems to be band-aid proof! It stays on for the most of 30 minutes and it comes off. Any help? Any band-aid replacements?

Q. The cut is pretty bad so I will have to wear a Band-Aid for a while.

A. The area around a wound must be kept clean and reasonably moist. When the dressings are dirty, they need to be replaced promptly. Leaving bandages on too long can slow the healing process and encourage infection. Replace any dressing when fluids soak through. This is called bleed-through and ideally, bandages should be changed before this occurs. Bleed-through increases the danger that a bandage will adhere to the wound. When this happens, soak the dressings and coax it off gently. The frequency of dressing changes depends on the wounds and the dressings applied. Talk with your own doctor or nurse to familiarize yourself with the correct treatment protocols.

Would I be able to use the Band Aid on a book title?
Q. I am currently half-way through writing a book. I thought of a great title for it, but it incorporates the word Band Aid in it. The word bandage just wouldn't have the effect I had in mind. Since the term Band Aid is genericized, and I'm not writing a book abot medicine, would I be allowed to use it on a book title? Trademark Trademark Trademark.

A. My Dad used to manage a clothing store, and in an ad he used the term wind breaker to describe a wind breaking jacket. The company that makes 'windbreakers' made him remove their name from the ad. Of course they were selling something using the windbreaker name. I was thinking about that 90's song 'Flies in the Vaseline', they didn't say 'Flies in the petroleum jelly'.

Q. I ripped off there is now a bright red mark in the shape of the sticky bits on the band-aid :S i am going to the beach tomorrow so i would really like it off! so do you know how?

A. All you have to do is wait I promise it will go away. As for the adhesive that the band-aid has left on your skin, just simply get some rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide and it will come off with the help of a cotton ball/Q-tip/etc. Hope this helps.

How long should I keep the band aid on?
Q. I went to the doctor's today and got 2 very smal skin tags on my neck frozen with nitrous oxide. She put 2 band aids, how long should i keep them on? And when i took them off to apply medicine, the skin got much darker around it, is this normal? How long will they take to fall off?

A. Let the band aid remain as long as it can. Apply ointment/medicine over it if necessary. There is no time limit. Darkness appearance in the skin is normal. It will go away over a period of time. It may take 2 to 3 days.
